About

Danielle Stradling, Cake4Kids Greater Huntsville Ambassador

I love hiking, going for drives, and just generally exploring! Now that most of my kids are big enough to hike without being carried, we are trying to go for more family hikes. We’re loving having a real “fall” season here in Alabama with beautiful changing leaves. That’s something we missed when living in Arizona. My other loves are reading and baking! My favorite books lately are historical fiction though I’ll read pretty much anything that’s recommended. I try to squeeze as much reading as possible in while kids are at sports practices etc. I love baking treats for friends and family whenever I can find an excuse and watching YouTube tutorials to hone my skills.

Who or what inspired your love of baking?

My mom inspired my love of baking. She was a stay at home mom when I was young, and she loved to bake with us kids. She taught me how to make bread, cookies, candies, pies, cakes, etc. Because of her guidance, I was able to bake many things independently at a very young age. At Christmas time, we’d bake so many different goodies and deliver them to all of our friends and neighbors. My favorite was always a delicious English toffee! Of course, this was all before Pinterest days, so we had lots and lots of different cookbooks full of yummy things to make together.

Why did you want to start Cake4Kids in your area?

Several years ago, when I was a foster mom, I became aware of so many wonderful organizations that served at-risk and underserved youth. I was blown away by all of the community support! The love, outreach, and support from the community really made such a difference to me and to my family. While I no longer foster, I wanted to give back and offer that support to other families. I discovered and volunteered for a similar organization in Arizona. It was a perfect fit — I could combine my love of baking with my love of serving children in my community. When I moved to Huntsville, there wasn’t anything like Cake4Kids here, so I reached out about bringing it here!
