Mary Campbell

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I love to be outside - hiking in the woods and being involved with nature, walking my dog, anything near the beach.  I love to travel and see new places. I love music and animals, crafts and cooking. I love to plan fun things to do with my family and friends -- parties, concerts, shows. I love to learn new things.  I just love to be around people and laugh and have fun.

Who inspired your love of baking?

I grew up in a very large, fun-loving Portuguese family.  We didn’t have a lot of money growing up but as a child I never realized that because I was surrounded by love.  Every birthday party felt like a giant celebration and the cake was always the main attraction. My Mom always made my brother and I amazing birthday cakes filled with love.  My favorite cake was a Barbie cake, from which I can still remember the magical feeling of sitting center stage in front of the cake while my family and friends sang “Happy Birthday” to me.  One of my favorite traditions around the holidays was when my Aunt, Mom, and I would get together to bake cookies, breads, cakes, and chocolate for upcoming family get-togethers. I still treasure those times today.  When I got older, I started baking birthday cakes for all of my godchildren for their birthdays and, eventually, I had my own children and baked for them for every special occasion and holiday and, of course, their birthdays.

Why did you want to start Cake4Kids in your area?

Childhood is such a magical time, but it is such a small part of our lives. If we can help to provide a struggling child with a birthday cake, that is truly a gift for all those involved.  Every child should feel loved and special on their birthday, just like I did.

Stacy Desrosier

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I love to create unique gifts for friends and family using shirt transfers, sublimation, engraving and other methods. The opportunity to help people create something they have in their mind and bring it to reality is a great feeling. This also translates to cakes and baking as a volunteer with Cake4Kids. Cakes are just another media to bring a vision to life which holds even greater meaning when it is for a youth that may not have ever received a cake or just never had one made to bring their vision to life.

What or who inspired your love of baking?

I grew up spending a few weeks each summer with my cousins at the home of my grandmother and great aunt. There was always cooking and baking happening which is probably where my love of baking started. I created a family cookbook with a collection of recipes from my grandmother, my immediate family and my aunt and cousins. Let’s just say the family love of dessert runs deep and those recipes make up 1/3 of the cookbook.

Why did you want to join Cake4Kids in your area?

I was a team parent for my daughter’s gymnastics team and always did themed cake for their events. As with most bakers, our families don’t want to eat as much as we like to bake. I loved the story behind Cake4Kids and their mission! After meeting Mary, I went from baking to also added fundraising and organizing events for the chapter before signing on as a Co-Ambassador with Mary to help our chapter remain one of the most active and rapidly growing chapters.
