About

Ray Biller, Coachella Valley Ambassador

Tell Us A Little Bit About Yourself!

I am a Southern California Native and proud of it. I come from an amazing family and have built myself a network of incredible friendships over the years. I've learned amazing things from all of them. I've lived in many locations such as Long Beach, LA, San Diego, Seattle, and St. Louis. I do love my food and wine. I like to think of myself as a good cook, but you'd have to ask my friends and family to make sure. I am a traveler. Been to many wonderful places; France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Mexico, Canada, and all over the United States. I have a goal to spend the night in all 50 states. With only 7 more to go. I enjoy going out to Piano Bars and Live Music Venues, Country Western Dancing, Retro Disco Dancing, and hanging with my friends and family.

Who Inspired Your Love of Baking?

My first memory of baking was opening up a box of Brownie Mix, mixing the ingredients, and smelling that amazing aroma as the brownies were pulled out of the oven. But I had an old friend of my family's, Velma Jacobsen, who really inspired me to bake. She taught me how to bake bread. I would go with her early in the morning to her local church to get the yeast rising, and then (we'll call them Velma's Army, would come and make breads, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cobblers, pies, and more. They would sell their deliciousness to the community at large and they raised enough money to pay off the entire new church building. That sense of community which Velma created remains large in my heart today and that's what I look forward to creating here in the Coachella Valley.

Why Did You Want To Start Cake4Kids In Your Area?

My sister Sandy got me involved with Cake4Kids in the San Diego area. We completed the orientation together and we would have so much fun sharing our photos of the cakes we created. (Some of mine are pictured here) I moved out to the Coachella Valley a few years ago, and sadly missed my cake baking days. I wondered if it would be possible to start a chapter here in this small community. As I began to explore the community and realized that there was a huge need to start a chapter here as well, that's exactly what I set out to do. I hope you'll consider joining us in this quest to provide cakes for kids!
